Chapter 10 - Happily Ever After on Beacon Street

Six months later, the autumn leaves had turned brilliant shades of copper and gold, blanketing the cobblestone streets of Beacon Street in a thick, rustling carpet.

Inside the grand dining room of the Castellano estate, the heavy crystal chandelier cast a warm, golden glow over a long mahogany table laden with roasted rosemary chicken, truffled risotto, and an absurdly large chocolate wedding cake adorned with delicate spun-sugar flowers.

There were no guards standing by the doors with weapons drawn. No blacked-out sedans idling in the alleyways. Just the soft hum of classical cello music playing from the speakers and the sound of genuine laughter echoing off the high plaster ceilings.

At the head of the table sat Lorenzo, looking relaxed and unshackled from the ghosts of his past. To his right sat June, radiant in a classic white lace dress that hugged every curve with timeless elegance. And directly across from them, wearing a matching miniature bridesmaid dress and clutching a bouquet of white roses, sat Lucia, beaming with the proud satisfaction of a general who had successfully orchestrated the greatest corporate merger of the century.

"I’d like to propose a toast," Carmine announced, standing up from the end of the table and clumsily tapping his water glass with a silver spoon. He cleared his throat, looking slightly uncomfortable in his formal tuxedo. "When the boss first told me he was going on a blind date set up by a nine-year-old using a fake profile, I took out a life insurance policy."

Laughter rippled around the table, led by June’s melodic chuckle.

"But looking around this room tonight," Carmine continued, his tough exterior softening as he looked at Lucia and then at June, "I realize the kid was right. Some things in life are worth dropping every defense for. To Lorenzo and June. May your portfolio always go up, and may your bedtime be whatever the hell you want it to be."

Glasses chimed together in a chorus of crystal ringing out into the warm evening air.

Lorenzo turned his head, locking eyes with his wife. The woman who had decoded his daughter's amateur espionage, survived a restaurant shootout in an emerald dress, and brought life back into a house that had been cold for far too long.

He reached across the white tablecloth, his fingers intertwining securely with hers.

"Best investment I ever made," Lorenzo whispered softly, pressing a gentle kiss to the back of her hand.

June smiled, her hazel eyes shining with absolute, unshakeable happiness as she leaned into his shoulder. "And to think, it all started with a typo."
