Chapter 10 - The Unbroken Masterpiece

On a golden afternoon in late September, the garden terrace of the Newport cottage was transformed into an intimate celebration of life, light, and new beginnings.

There were no armed security teams standing guard at the gates, and no armored sedans idling in the driveway.

Only thirty close friends, local artists, museum conservators, and former syndicate captains who had traded their weapons for honest maritime businesses.

Leo stood at Gabriel’s side as the best man, wearing an impeccably tailored navy suit and holding a gold wedding band with a proud, beaming grin.

The acoustic guitar played a soft, soaring melody as the garden gate opened.

Meline stepped onto the stone pathway, walking through the rose arbor on the arm of the elderly museum director who had given her her very first restoration apprenticeship ten years ago.

She looked breathtaking.

Her wedding dress was made of ivory silk chiffon that floated like sea foam in the autumn breeze, adorned with delicate lace sleeves that completely covered the faint, faded scars on her arms.

Her dark hair fell in soft, loose waves around her shoulders, crowned by a simple wreath of white jasmine and olive branches.

As she reached the cedar arbor where Gabriel stood, the breath left his chest all over again.

He stepped forward, taking both of her hands into his large, warm grip.

His fingers were steady, unshakeable, and filled with a peace that could never be stolen.

The minister spoke words of loyalty, endurance, and grace, but Gabriel and Meline only had eyes for each other, their gaze locked in a silent dialogue of two souls that had walked through the fire and found their way home.

"I take you, Gabriel," Meline spoke, her clear, musical voice carrying over the gentle crash of the waves against the cliffs below.

"Not as a shield against the world, but as the partner of my soul. I promise to love you in the quiet, in the light, and through every season of our lives."

"And I take you, Meline," Gabriel vowed, his deep voice thick with tears he was proud to let fall in front of everyone he loved.

"To honor you, to cherish you, and to spend every breath I have building a world where you will never have to be afraid again."

They slid the gold bands onto each other's fingers, the metal catching the afternoon sun like brilliant sparks of fire.

"I now pronounce you husband and wife," the minister declared with a broad smile.

"You may kiss your bride."

Gabriel didn't hesitate for a single second.

He swept his arms around her waist, lifting her gently off her feet, and brought his lips down to hers in a deep, passionate, and infinitely tender kiss that sealed their lives together for eternity.

The small gathering erupted into joyful cheers, applause, and laughter that echoed across the blue waters of Narragansett Bay.

When Gabriel finally set her down, Meline laughed softly, resting her forehead against his chest, her hands holding onto the lapels of his suit.

She reached into her small lace bouquet, pulled out a tiny silver paintbrush—the very one Gabriel had saved from the blood-stained floor of her Brooklyn studio—and tucked it into the breast pocket of his jacket, right over his heart.

"There," Meline whispered, looking up into his clear, peaceful dark eyes with radiant love.

"Now your restoration is complete."

May you like

Gabriel laughed—a rich, booming, joyful sound that carried across the gardens and filled the coastal afternoon with pure, untainted light.

He kissed her brow, wrapped her tightly in his embrace, and turned together to face the sun rising over the wide, open sea.
