Chapter 8 - Rising Higher

Spring had arrived in full force, bringing with it a vibrant explosion of green leaves, warm sunshine, and crisp, clear skies.
I stood at the edge of the private aviation tarmac at the municipal airport, wearing my crisp inspector’s jumpsuit and holding my heavy diagnostic clipboard. Beside me, towering high against the brilliant blue sky, sat a magnificent twin-engine cargo aircraft—a multi-million-dollar masterpiece of engineering that required absolute precision, safety, and expertise to clear for flight.
My phone buzzed in my pocket. I pulled it out to find a notification from my bank: the final court-ordered restitution payment from my parents had successfully cleared, fully covering every legal expense, medical bill, and lost contract fee from the past year. My independent safety consulting firm, Vance & Associates Inspection Division, had just been awarded a massive government contract expansion, making us the premier aviation safety authority in the tri-state area.
Vesper walked up beside me, handing me my official digital clearance scanner. "The final pre-flight diagnostics are locked and loaded, Chief. Are you ready to clear her for takeoff?"
May you like
I looked up at the massive aircraft glistening in the afternoon sun, then down at my right leg, which now walked firmly, steadily, and without a single trace of weakness. The metal pins and healed bone were stronger than ever, tested by hardship and forged in absolute resilience.
"Always, Vesper," I smiled, my heart soaring as high as the aircraft above. "Let's clear her for flight."
